Review by Michael L. Lefko for Middle School Study Skills Rating: I was given the task of creating a Guided Studies class for special education students at my middle school. I decided it should focus on organizational skills, study skills and test taking skills. This book has been a tremendous resource of ideas for the course and for lesson plans.(specifically with the organizational and study skills).This is the perfect resource book for the middle school teacher. It gives information teachers need to be teaching students, even before "reading, writing and arithmetic", to help them be successful as they progress through their school years. A+

Review by Stephen Armstrong for Middle School Study Skills Rating: I have now reviewed about ten books on middle school study skills, and there are others better than this one.

This book is divided into three parts: (1) getting it together, (2) What's my grade?, and (3) learning to learn. Much of the book is direct at the teacher, who is urged to micro-plan his or her classroom experience, e.g., have pencil, pen, and paper, use homework helpers, getting set up for class, having a place to study, and so forth. Ernst then writes about grading systems (not sure what that has to do with study skills), and then, finally, addresses some specific study skills. The suggestions in the section "Reading This and That" seemed fairly elementary to me, and were not, in fact, process skills that students could use.

I found Laurie Rozakis' book Super Study Skills to be more useful in this age group. William Luckie's book Study Power is more useful in the high school and early college age group.

I love Muay Thai and Scott is a great teacher. If you are looking to get in shape and learn a great way to defend yourself, this is a must own.

This is a great overall training tool. I have had some Muay Thai training which helped me assimilate into the drills with some ease. The one thing I would say about it is that some of the basics of punching and stepping are quickly over viewed which could get frusterating to some one just learning from the start. But overall I really appreciated the full spectrum of the training provided with this home study course. Well worth the investment!

There are very few technical tips about taking standardized tests. The book is for developing great study habits to prepare for taking tests. If the reader is much older than junior high age his or her study habits are probably too ingrained to change very much and this book is not worth buying.

I really enjoy the "Do I need to Read this Chapter?" feature because it immediately addresses the argument from many teens, "I don't need this. I'm fine". Or the question, "What do I need THIS for?". The author addresses time management, working to one's strengths, memory strategies, the importance of vocabulary and how to increase it, and many other important skills.

The book includes chapters about taking specific kinds of tests such as true-false, multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, matching, and math tests. Also, this book helps you manage your time, read well, calm test jitters, learn to study well, and much more! A wonderful, well-written book by an experienced eduacator that really does help you have better test-taking strategies and study skills! For all the "utterly confused" out there, read this book! You will be a better student- and a better test-taker after reading it.
